In July 2015 FCE was awarded its first anaerobic digestion plant contract – a waste-to-energy plant in Cape Town, using the organic fraction of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) to feed the digester. FCE is the EPC contractor for this project and is very excited to be integral to the development of this first-of-a-kind plant in Africa.

The plant will produce 1250 Nm3/hr of biogas from 480 tons/day MSW. This biogas will be processed into biomethane as an LPG fuel replacement, and beverage grade carbon dioxide.

The plant, designed and built to first world European standards, is a major step forwards for the waste-to-energy industry on the continent of Africa. Projects such as these will ensure that waste in no longer viewed as a nuisance but rather as a useful commodity.
